Welcome to the Writing Program!
The Rutgers Writing Program is a unit of the English Department with the mission of providing instruction in writing across the university. It is committed to inclusive and responsive forms of pedagogy that, by being creative, dynamic, reflective, and rigorous, will support students in their writing and thinking at the University and beyond.
In Fall 2023, College Writing replaced Expository Writing (“Expos”) as the first-year composition class that is required of all Rutgers students and that fulfills the WC core requirement. This course is taught not just by the Writing Program's full-time faculty body but also by part-time lecturers and graduate student teaching assistants from disciplines across SAS. An article about the rollout of the new College Writing course is available here.
Through College Writing and our other course offerings, the Writing Program provides instruction to thousands of Rutgers students each academic year. Our full-time faculty teach across the undergraduate and graduate levels, designing and teaching introductory classes for multilingual writers as well as advanced research, technical, and professional writing courses that fulfill additional core writing requirements.
