The Graduate Writing Program (GWP) supports graduate students from across the Rutgers community in their scholarly writing goals, from coursework papers to articles and dissertations. Based on expert research in composition studies, the GWP’s curriculum helps students master the genres and styles of academic writing. Additionally, students develop professional writing habits, including techniques for time management, goal setting, and resilience. Graduate students of all levels are welcome.

Courses typically consist of eight class meetings and two one-on-one conferences. While GWP courses appear on students’ transcripts, they are free, carry zero credits and entail no additional work other than the writing students are already doing in their programs. A “Satisfactory” grade is determined by attendance and engagement.

In addition to offering courses, the GWP hosts a range of workshops and events, such as writing workshops and guest lectures. These are open to the broader Rutgers community. To learn more about our faculty, courses and events, please explore the tabs above.

 

Register for Classes 

Beginning in Summer 2024, interested RU graduate students are invited to sign up for our writing accountability groups. Students will meet weekly on Zoom to write alongside other grads and make progress toward their writing goals. Regular attendance is not required, but certainly encouraged! After registering, participants will be provided with materials to help them effectively structure and run these student-led productivity sessions.
