Section Topic: Writing for Visual Media
Section Description: Writing for Visual Media offers students practice in the forms and discourses of visual, film and/or television writing as they research, develop, and devise a collaborative original script. The purpose of the course is to train and prepare students for their professional lives in the field of video, film, and TV writing by helping them to conceptualize, develop, and revise a narrative script for a short feature film or TV pilot rigorously formatted according to industry standards. Students will also gain practice in shorter-form industry standard documents which are usually written in preparation for full script to further develop their professional knowledge and expertise.
Students will be placed in groups to conceptualize and draft an initial beat sheet, and later each student will gain individual practice in industry standard formatting by drafting a short narrative scene. In groups, students will then draft a treatment for a script that should include the scenes they created individually, and finally a fully developed script by way of three rounds of revisions.
