Teacher Resources on the World Wide Web

Using Computer Technology in Writing Instruction
With the use of compoters rapidly becoming an integral part of Writing Programs everywhere, the separation of this page from other resources may seem arbitrary. Still, computers, networks, and the World Wide Web are specific tools which can be used regardless of one's pedagogy, so it makes sense to isolate the information about how others are using this technology in teaching composition.

Naturally, this topic gets a lot of space on the World Wide Web. In the interest of making the information accessible, this page approaches the use of technology in sections. (Clicking on a link will open a new browser window on your desktop.)

The Issues
Here, you will find links to (mostly scholarly) commentaries addressing the terminology, theory, and pedagogy of using various technological resources in teaching composition.

Rheingold. "Computers, Ethics, and Schools"
Rheingold's Tools for Thought (book)
Rheingold's Virtual Community (book)

The Tools
Here are links to definitions and discussions of widely used instructional technologies. Some of these tools were developed by theorists, while others took on a life of their own and were cataloged by the experts only after becoming well established in practice.
