After 101
Will the new School of Arts and Sciences have a Writing requirement?
Beginning in 2007, the School of Arts and Sciences will require students to take Expository Writing 101 and one additional course, credit-bearing and worth at least 3 credits, from a list of approved courses. (This list is currently in progress.)
I'm a Cook College student. In order to graduate, what Writing
requirements must I fulfill?
To graduate from Cook College, all students who matriculated January 2003 or later must successfully complete:
1. Expository Writing I 355:101 or 355:103
2. And one other writing course. Approved courses include:
01:355:201 Research in the Disciplines
01:355:202 Technical Writing Essentials
01:355:203 Business Writing Essentials
01:355:301 College Writing and Research
01:355:302 Scientific & Technical Writing
01:355:303 Wrtg for Bus& Professions
01:355:315 Writing Grant Proposals
01:355:342 Science Writing
01:355:425 Web Authoring
A select list of courses offered by other departments is also acceptable. Ask your Dean's office for the full list.

After 101
I'm a Douglass College student. In order to graduate, what Writing
requirements must I fulfill?
Starting in Fall 2000, to graduate from Douglass College, all students
must successfully complete:
1. Expository Writing I 355:101 or its equivalent.
2. An additional course of at least 3 credits, with a strong Writing
component, selected from an approved list with a grade of C or better.
The list is on your Distribution Degree Requirements sheet and is also
available at the Dean's Office. If you entered prior to Fall 2000, you
only need to complete 101.

After 101
I'm a Livingston College student. In order to graduate, what Writing
requirements must I fulfill?
Students must complete (with a grade of C or better) Expository Writing I (01:355:101) and one additional writing course, Research in the Disciplines (01:355:201) or another college-certified course. A list of college-certified writing courses equivalent to Research in the Disciplines (01:355:201) is available each term in the Academic Information Center (Lucy Stone Hall, Room A-216). The second course should be completed within one year of entering the college or immediately upon completion of Expository Writing I (01:355:101).
The Research in the Disciplines requirement cannot be satisfied with transfer
credits. All students must take Research in the Disciplines or an equivalent
course at Rutgers.

After 101
I'm a Rutgers College student. In order to graduate, what Writing requirements
must I fulfill?
To graduate from Rutgers College, all students must successfully complete
the following Writing Skills Requirements:
1. Expository Writing I 355:101 or equivalent
2. An additional course, beyond 355:101, of at least 3 credits, with
a strong Writing component. For a list of these Writing intensive courses go to the Academic Services Office in Milledoler
Hall.
Students with a grade of 4 or 5 on the AP Test may be given degree credit
for 355:101.
355:098, 355:100, 355:100R, and 355:101 do not fulfill any other general
education, major, or minor requirements.

2. All Dance and Visual Arts majors are required to fulfill Research in
the Disciplines 355:201.
Students with a grade of 4 or 5 on the AP Test may be given degree credit
for 355:101.

Incoming students must meet the following requirements in order to enter the First Professional (Third)
Year of the Program:
1. Expository Writing I 355:101
2. Research in the Disciplines 355:201
Students with a grade of 4 or 5 on the AP Test may be given degree credit
for 355:101.

After 101
I'm a University College student. In order to graduate, what Writing
requirements must I fulfill?
To graduate from University College, all students must successfully complete
the following Writing sequence:
1. Expository Writing I 355:101
2. English Writing 201, 301, 302, 303, 315, & 342.
Unless exempt, students should complete these courses in their first two terms at University College. Students with a grade of 4 or 5 on the AP Test may be given degree credit
for 355:101. Students who have not received transfer credit for a college-level Writing
course equivalent to 355:101 or 355:201 must take the Writing Placement
Test.
