Can the Writing Program give me a special permission number to drop a writing course?

If you want to drop a writing class, you need to meet with the academic Dean of your college. If your Dean grants your request to drop the course, she/he will either call the Writing Program or give you a letter (granting your request for a special permission number to drop the course) to carry over to the Add/Drop location on the campus where your course is scheduled. Once you receive this special permission number, you must go to the Registrar or use the phone system if you are eligible. If you are dropping or are being dropped from the course after the Add/Drop period has concluded, you will need to go either to your College Dean or to the Registrar's office once you've received your special permission number to complete the process of being dropped from the course. Can the Writing Program give me a special permission number to enroll in a closed writing course?

No, it is our policy not to over-enroll Writing Program courses. Teachers for writing courses cannot give out special permission numbers to over-enroll closed sections.

What should I do if I need a special permission number for a writing course?

The Writing Program cannot drop you from a course without the permission of the Dean of your college. Also, it is the Writing Program's policy not to add students to closed sections.
