See Frequently Asked Questions About: Adding/Dropping Writing Courses

Because of the number of students the Writing Program serves, special arrangements have been made to facilitate the Add/Drop process for Writing Program courses.

Students may add or drop Writing Program courses on any day during the Add/Drop period by coming in person to one of the Add/Drop centers. For locations and times of operation, please go to Frequently Asked Questions About: Adding/Dropping Writing Classes. Keep in mind that the Add/Drop staff can only advise you about the status of Writing Program course sections. Once you have spoken to the staff, you will still have to go to the Registrar to make the change to your schedule.

When you go to an Add/Drop center, you should bring the following information: the number, section code, and time of the course you are dropping; the numbers, section codes, and times of several sections of the course you want to add; your schedule of classes, work, and free time; and any permissions from the Dean of your college you may need. If you do not have everything you need, the staff of the Add/Drop center may not be able to help you, and you will have to come back to Add/Drop at another time.

Add/Drop often produces long lines, so be realistic about the amount of time you will have to wait (forty-five minutes to an hour at peak times). Because section availability varies from hour to hour as students add and drop at different campuses, on the phone and via the web, you may need to return to Add/Drop several times over the course of the week in order to find a section that fits your schedule.

Because we are dedicated to the preservation of small class size and personal attention from instructors, the Writing Program does not over-enroll its courses. Therefore, we cannot give special permission to enter a fully-enrolled course under any circumstances.
