The Rutgers Writing Program invites applications from all experienced
writing instructors for a new curriculum development Fellows Program
for Research in The Disciplines. Research in the Disciplines (355:201)
anticipates the creation of up to six Special Topics 201 course
offerings to be implemented over the next two years.
The Writing Program will list each Special Topics course for Fall
2002. Special Topics courses will be offered a minimum of one term
each academic year, and may be offered up to six times over the
Fellow's two-year tenure (if student interest warrants it). Each
Special Topics course will be tied to a Fellow. Fellows can anticipate
that their Special Topics will be retired after two years.
Research in The Disciplines Fellows will hold their appointment
for two years, and will attend three curriculum development workshops
in the Summer Institute for Research in The Disciplines each year
of their appointment. These workshops will enable Fellows to develop
and refine their Special Topics courses, and will help the Writing
Program enhance the curriculum in Research in the Disciplines. Fellows
will also assist in the development of appropriate web-based resources
to accompany their Special Topics courses. (No web-building experience
is required or expected.)
In Spring 2002, the Writing Program will appoint up to three Fellows
for Research in the Disciplines on the basis of course proposals
meeting the following criteria:
-
A clear articulation of the proposed topic's suitability for
a second-semester freshman or sophomore introduction to research
writing. The proposed course topic should be specific and timely
enough to generate student interest and enrollment, while remaining
general enough to permit a wide range of student research projects.
-
A preliminary list of readings for the course, including an
articulation each reading's suitability for both the course
topic and the overall goals of Research in The Disciplines.
-
Identification of possible research projects students might
pursue.
The Writing Program is particularly interested in issue-oriented
proposals that invite multi-disciplinary approaches to the proposed
course topic.
Fellows for Research in The Disciplines will receive:
-
A $500 award.
-
An opportunity to participate in curriculum development for
201.
-
Continuity in course assignments over several semesters.
-
Valuable experience and a line on the curriculum vitae.
Applications for the Fellows Program should include the following:
-
A Working course title.
-
A 500-word course proposal that meets the aforementioned criteria.
-
A vita, including Writing Program teaching experience.
The application deadline for the Research in The Disciplines Fellows
Program is Friday, March 15, 2002. Decisions regarding recipients
will be made by the first week in April. All applicants will be
notified soon after decisions are made.
Applications should be sent electronically to Michael Cripps (cripps@rci.rutgers.edu)
