Business
and Technical Writing, a division of The Writing Program, is excited
to offer a number of new courses, including Business Writing Essentials,
Writing Grant Proposals, Writing for Engineers, Science Writing,
Writing as a Naturalist, Technical Editing, Information Design and
Web Authoring. These courses help students make the transition from
writing in school to writing in their professional lives. Our courses
now cover a whole range of student needs, from basic communication
skills to web authoring techniques. We add these classes to our
originals-Writing for Business & Professions (355:303) and Scientific
& Technical Writing (355:302) - which have grown in popularity in
recent years.
In
addition to our new classes, we also now offer two writing certificates:
a Professional Writing Certificate and a Technical Writing Certificate
(for students with technical or science majors). By working towards
these certificates, students will enhance their oral, written, and
electronic communication abilities, increasing their eligibility
for jobs that require advanced writing competency. Both certificates
require six courses in four key skill areas: two courses of writing
training, one course of research practice, two courses to improve
computer knowledge, and one internship experience.

courses and the certificates.
