Tutorama: Week Eight: Conducting a Basic IRIS Search

Conducting a Basic IRIS Search | Searching for Books | Searching for Periodicals
Go to the Ask a Librarian page | Go to the Libraries Home Page | Go to IRIS

IRIS is the Rutgers online library catalogue. It can be accessed directly through the IRIS Online Catalog, or as part of the Rutgers Libraries Home Page. IRIS contains information about all of the libraries' holdings, from books and periodicals to microfilm and archival materials. Whenever you conduct an academic research project, IRIS should be the first place you turn to survey the resources for your particular line of questioning.

But the sheer number of resources at Rutgers can be a problem in itself for the beginning researcher. Rutgers houses one of the best academic library systems in the country, so the researcher is usually faced with an embarrassment of riches—there are literally millions of items to choose from. So the question becomes: How do you choose the most useful sources from all of the possible sources available to you?
