Webpage Building

This page will provide information on how you can create your very own personal web page. The steps involved in making a web page are not as difficult as you may think. There are links offered on this page that can help you get well on your way to creating web pages.

Getting Started

Please note that if you want to store your personal web page on your Rutgers eden account, you must first complete the first two steps, how to set up your eden account, and how to set up your "public_html" folder.

How to set up your eden account
In order to publish a web page to your Rutgers web space, you must first establish your eden account. Eden accounts will allow you to receive Rutgers e-mail, and allocate a certain amount of web space for you, so that you can publish web pages on your Rutgers account. This page provides information on how to set up an eden account, and summarizes the guidelines for terms of use. Before filling out the online form for establishing an eden account, you must read the "Acceptable Use Policy." After you fill out the form, your eden account will become active on the computer system in fifteen minutes.

How to set up your "public_html" folder
Before you can make your web page, you need to create the space that will store it. This space on your eden account is known as the "public_html" folder. This web page details the steps needed to create your public_html folder.

RCI / Eden Secure Server Services
During the summer of 2003, Rutgers University Computing Services will be making changes to improve the security of services on both the RCI and Eden systems. Information is available concerning changes (such as necessary changes to be made within e-mail programs) on the NBCS site.

However, this tutorial doesn't leave much room for being creative with your page. It's very straight forward and easy to understand. This is a great tutorial for beginners.
