100R and 099 Explained

Standard Course Requirements and Policies for 099 | Grading Criteria for 099

Standard Course Requirements and Policies for 099

While individual instructors are free to set some general course policies (concerning tardiness and late papers, for example), all Writing Program teachers must follow some standard rules. These policies and requirements should be indicated on the course syllabus.

  • Students must pass 099 in order to pass through 100R into 101. The work of any student who seems to be passing 100 but not passing 099 should be brought to the attention of a director during folder review or before.

  • Students in 100R must complete a minimum of 8 to 10 Reading (099) assignments during the semester.

  • Students must complete a final exam for 099 which takes place in class. The final 099 exam should focus upon the new reading assigned for the 100 exam. Students will have one class period to complete the 099 exam. It is part of the 4-day final exam sequence in 100R. The 099 exam is given the day before the discussion day for two-day 100 exam. The sequence of events is as follows: Day 1: 099 in-class exam. Day 2: Discussion for the 100 in-class exam. Day 3: Begin 100 in-class exam (draft day). Day 4: Complete 100 in-class exam (revision day).

  • There is no midterm exam for 099. The quizzes, therefore, should be used as practice for the final 099 exam.
