100R and 099 Explained

IntroductionGoals of 099 | The Midterm and Final Exam for 100R | Ways 100R is different from 100

Ways 100R is different from 100

  • The class meets 3 days per week instead of 2.

  • The schedule allows more time for structured reading assignments that move the students towards their writing tasks.

  • Students complete written exercises that address reading issues both in and out of class throughout the semester.

  • Students take reading quizzes. (It is important to remember that "R" quizzes should be learning tools that help students develop their reading skill as they work through the quizzes, rather than merely a convenient means of establishing a grade.)

  • Quizzes, in-class reading assignments, and homework for the "R" component of the class comprise the student's 099 grade.

  • Both exams (mid-term and final) last three days. The first day of the exam is the "reading" section, comprising the same kinds of questions students have addressed in their "R" writing assignments and quizzes. The first day of the exam also helps to prepare students for days 2 and 3, which follow the same format as other 100 exams.
