  • 356:152 Discussion and Presentation Skills

    Course Description:

    EAP Discussion and Presentation (356:152) offers students currently enrolled in EAP I or II to improve their English speaking and listening skills. It is a one-credit course that meets one day a week for 13 weeks, with no classes the first week of the semester. The class will focus on individual and collaborative projects that will promote discussion and presentation. Students will also create and present PowerPoint presentations, delegate roles for class presentations, research content for a panel discussion, answer audience questions, and learn to project confidence in front of a group. The class size will be limited to 16 students, a class size that will provide students with the opportunity to get to know each other and work well together in groups.

  • 356:155 EAP I: Writing Across Cultures

    Course Description:

    Writing Across Cultures is a 4.5-credit first-year writing course for learners of English as an additional language. Students in this course will explore cultural concepts within various texts on cultural studies, sociology, language studies, fiction, poetry, and personal narrative. They will compose a detailed multimodal portrait of the ways an author’s cultural identity relates to communication as well as a self-portrait reflecting upon their own personal linguistic and cultural journeys. This course fulfills the AHq Core Requirement. Students successfully completing EAP I (155) continue into EAP II (156).

     

    Dropping English for Academic Purposes is not possible without a dean's permission.     Course Description:

    Academic Writing in the United States is a 4.5-credit first-year writing course for learners of English as an additional language. Students in this course will discuss and analyze multimodal texts across a variety of disciplines and engage in writing assignments to develop strategies and skills useful within the conventions of academic writing across disciplines in colleges and universities in the United States. They will create a digital project showcasing their development in critical thinking, rhetorical effectiveness, and understanding of academic writing conventions. Students successfully completing EAP II (156) will continue into either College Writing (101) or College Writing Extended (104).
