PART-TIME LECTURER

The Writing Program welcomes applications year-round from teachers with an MA or higher degree in any discipline to teach our first year writing course, Expository Writing.

For Fall 2009, PTL salaries will start at:

$1410 per credit for instructors with a Master's Degree.
$1551 per credit for instructors with a Ph.D.

FULL-TIME INSTRUCTOR

We seek applicants for the position of Assistant Instructor to work in our Writing Program.  A successful applicant will receive a one-year, non-tenure-track contract and may be eligible for annual reappointment.  The starting date for this position is August 17, 2009.

Qualifications
Applicants must have in hand by the time of the appointment an M.A. or equivalent degree.  Substantial teaching experience at the university level is required.  Appointment decisions are based on student course evaluations and folder review performance.

Job Description
This is a full-time teaching position, with no research component.  Assistant Instructors teach seven sections of writing each academic year, generally four sections in the fall and three sections in the spring.

Salary
Starts at $37,909 for the 2009-2010 academic year.

 ASSISTANT DIRECTOR 

We seek applicants for the position of Assistant Director to work in our Writing Program.  A successful applicant will receive a one-year, non-tenure-track contract at the rank of Instructor and will be eligible for annual reappointment.  The starting date for this position is August 17, 2009.

Qualifications
Applicants must be ABD.  The appointment carries with it expectation of good progress toward completion of the Ph.D., that is, within two years.  Experience as a teacher of Expository Writing is required.

Job Description
This is a full-time position with no research component, equivalent to seven sections of teaching per year.  Two or three of these sections consist of actual teaching assignments.  The remaining sections per year are made up primarily by work in some of the following areas:                                     

  • Participating in the Writing Program Orientation
  • Mentoring of new teachers
  • Conducting mid-term and end-of-term “folder reviews”

    ~AND~

  • Recruiting and training of tutors; tutoring students; maintaining a visible, ongoing presence in the Writing Center

    ~OR~

  • Assessing curricular effectiveness; revising and updating materials and textbooks; maintaining course website

The person holding this position must be available in the fall from about August 17 onward and must remain available through the first week of June; he or she is kept busy right up to the beginning of the winter recess and must be available a few days before the spring semester begins.  All Assistant Directors must be on the job four full days per week (this includes time spent tutoring, teaching, and in folder reviews and meetings.)  All Assistant Directors must be willing to work with the Sakai system and to communicate regularly using electronic media.

Salary
Salary starts at $41,214 for the academic year.
